The Royal Real

October 2008

Message from the Booster Club President;
Well it has been a long off-season for Victoria Salmon King’s fans but thankfully hockey season has arrived!! Welcome to a new season of hockey! This issue of the newsletter officially marks the beginning of the 2008/09 season of the Booster Club.
We are very excited about the upcoming season. Congratulations to Wes Goldie for being named our team captain! Last year the Salmon Kings went to the quarter finals in the playoffs and took the West Division Championship title. This year we are looking to go all the way to the Kelly Cup!
The Booster Club has had a busy pre-season with events such as the Billiards Night at Peacock Billiards with the Salmon Kings that were at training camp, face painting at the Season Ticket pick-up and Meet & Greet, as well with the help of wonderful sponsors we put together “Fill the Cupboards” Welcome Packages for the players. There are many more great upcoming events planned for the 08/09 season.
Home Opener weekend will be busy with the unveiling of the West Division Championship banner on Friday, players wearing a new “third” jersey on Saturday, and then Sunday will have the afternoon game at 1:00pm followed by a Skate with the Salmon Kings by donation to the booster club.

New this season the Booster Club will be having autograph signings with a few players after the Saturday night games, starting Nov 1. Come down after the game to get your autographs by Gate 3. We look forward to having you become part of the action and “get hooked” with your Victoria Salmon Kings. Here’s to a great season. Go Kings Go!
Billiards Night with the Salmon Kings
On Tuesday October 7th members of the Booster Club and the Salmon Kings joined together to play some pool at Peacocks Billiards. In total the event was attended by 15 Salmon Kings players and 5 Booster Club members. We broke off into teams of two and some friendly competition ensued. We had 5 tables and after each round the winning team moved to another table. Everyone seemed to have some sort of strategy or another, whether it be to hit the balls into the pockets, arrange the balls in a defensive position so the other team had no shots, or let the other team do all the work. Obviously some strategies were more successful than others. The event ended with a round of Salmon King related trivia for the players. A great time was had by all and we look forward to more events like this over the rest of the hockey season.
Season Ticket Holder Meet and Greet
Wednesday, October 15th was the Meet & Greet for the Victoria Salmon Kings at the SOFMC. The amount of fans that attended the function to show their support was fantastic. The Booster Club put on face painting for the kids. What a huge success!! Children of all ages came to have their faces painted with sticks, pucks, even the number of their favourite player!! From the start of the meet and greet, right up to the end of the night the face painting never slowed down! There was a mini golf section that kept the kids busy with a little friendly competition of their own. Even Wes Goldie came to take a few shots to see how good his golf swing was! You could feel the excitement in the air as Jeff introduced our 2008-2009 Salmon King players; cheers erupted everywhere!! Players interacted with the crowd signing autographs; chatting about the up coming season, and their trip to Phoenix to start the season off.
“Fill the Cupboards" Welcome Packages
One of the reasons for a Booster Club is to support the players and make them feel welcome when they come to Victoria. For the last few seasons we have made welcome packages for the players. Each year we have done something different. This season we decided that our theme for the welcome packages would be “Fill the Cupboards” so the Booster Club members stepped up and went and obtained donations from local sponsors: Campbell’s Soups, Sopranos Karaoke & Sports Bar, Save on Foods, Thrifty Foods, Cobs Bread and Mulligan Tam Pearson- Criminal Law. With the help from these sponsors we were able to make packages for each player. The package will give them a base of food for the start of the season. We delivered the packages on October 15th, after the season ticket pick-up and meet & greet. The players were excited as they came into the dressing room to see presents at each of their cubbies. There were comments of “Cool, umbrellas” “Wow, look at all the food”.

We let the players know that we hope they have a great season, and we wished them well on their road trip and would see them back for the Home Opener October 24th.
